The future holds the promise of a whole new schema of businesses, accompanied by new kinds of jobs – the most critical being new roles for the Human Resource functions.

Future-mapping HR: The future of HR roles in business will be shaped very differently from what it is today.

Since HR is, in all probability, the most critical strategic function of future businesses – with answers to the post-pandemic challenges being sought more from HR than any other function – the way HR roles reshape in the next 10 years will be important.

These HR roles are important both for business leaders and HR leaders to anticipate and build their respective teams around.

For this reason, ‘The Cognizant Center for Future of Work’ and ‘Future Workplace’ together set up a project to study and reimagine the shape of HR in the next decade.

About 100 business leaders, and CXOs came together for the 9-month exercise. They delineated 21 new jobs, some mirroring existing roles and some that do not even exist today.

These 21 HR roles cover 5 core areas that were seen as important to the future space:

  • Resilience (personal & organizational)
  • Trust & Safety
  • Creativity & innovation
  • Data literacy
  • Human-machine partnerships (Artificial Intelligence)
