Besides the calendar above, Uttarakhand permits each District Magistrate to declare up to three local holidays under Para 247 of the Manual of Government Orders, though the Secretariat, the Vidhan Sabha and five-day-week offices stay open on those days. Banks, treasuries and sub-treasuries do not follow the state list at all and observe a separate 23-day calendar under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, which drops Mahavir Jayanti, Muharram and Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti and adds the annual closing of commercial bank accounts on Tuesday, 1 April 2025. Id-ul-Fitr, Bakrid, Muharram, Id-e-Milad, Shab-e-Barat, Jamat-ul-Vida and Chehallum are observed by local moon sighting, and the notification specifies that a shifted date takes effect automatically without any further order.

How Uttarakhand Holidays Impact Payroll and Leave Management?

Uttarakhand's calendar has one dense stretch that dominates the year: October into early November. Mahanavami on 1 October is followed by Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra sharing 2 October, Valmiki Jayanti on the 7th, Deepavali and Narak Chaturdashi both on the 20th, Govardhan Puja on the 22nd, Bhaiya Dooj on the 23rd, Chhath Puja on the 28th and Igas-Bagwal on 1 November. Nine entries land inside a five-week window, and four of them are restricted rather than gazetted, which is twice an employee's entire yearly allowance.
