Note: The Government order permits State Government employees to avail up to five optional holidays from the notified Optional Holiday list. Maha Sivaratri, Babu Jagjivan Ram’s Birthday, Durgashtami and Deepavali fall on Sundays in 2026. Shab-e-Qadar falls on a Sunday, while Mahalaya Amavasya falls on the second Saturday. What is different about Andhra Pradesh holidays in 2026? The Andhra Pradesh calendar is strongly shaped by Telugu festivals and regional observances. The Sankranti period creates a three-day sequence of Bhogi on 14 January, Makara Sankranti on 15 January and Kanuma on 16 January. Ugadi, Sri Rama Navami, Vara Lakshmi Vratham, Vinayaka Chavithi and Vijaya Dasami are also included in the General Holiday schedule. Several important occasions fall on existing weekly holidays in 2026. Maha Sivaratri, Babu Jagjivan Ram’s Birthday, Durgashtami and Deepavali fall on Sundays, so they do not create an additional weekday closure for State Government offices under this notification. Do Andhra Pradesh and Telangana follow the same holiday calendar? No. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana issue separate holiday notifications. While the two states share many festivals, the notified dates and state-specific observances can differ. Organisations with employees across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana should therefore maintain separate location-based holiday calendars rather than applying one calendar to both states.

How Andhra Pradesh Holidays Impact Payroll and Leave Management

Andhra Pradesh organisations need to account for general holidays, optional holidays, weekly offs and location-specific policies while planning attendance and payroll. The Sankranti period is a good example: Bhogi, Makara Sankranti and Kanuma fall on three consecutive days in 2026, which can affect staffing, shifts and leave planning for businesses that remain operational during the festival period.

For enterprises operating across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and other states, a single national calendar is not enough. HR teams need the correct holiday rules for each work location, while also handling optional holidays, shift workers, overtime and employees who work on notified holidays.

HONO helps enterprises manage location-specific holiday calendars, leave entitlements, attendance rules and payroll from one HRMS, reducing manual calendar updates across a distributed workforce.
